WeedyForm

I am a ceramic artist living and working in East Sussex. I produce handcrafted, domestically scaled pieces from stoneware that are functional, sculptural, and intended for everyday use. The materials and method inform my practice of making.

I also actively seek out unexpected outcomes and irregularities and add organic and graphic marks to enhance the glazes further. The surface designs are applied by hand before the first firing, making each item unique.

I find inspiration in both the natural world and industrial processes, as evident in specific pieces’ hybrid nature.

A weed should not carry the negative connotation of being an invasive species designed to survive at the cost of its neighbours. Still, it could be better regarded as a plant that may have a beneficial effect on its surroundings, although not introduced intentionally.
